It is vital that we help children and
families cope with what can inevitably be a
stressful time.
We believe that the cancer unit at St James
hospital is one of the best, the staff –
whether they be doctors or support staff, are
fantastic. For many of the families they are
angels without wings.
Any parent will tell you that there is no
worse
experience than their child being ill. The
hospital staff will tell you that what matters
most to that child’s care is having their
families around them and keeping the child’s
spirits up.
Charitable donations mean we can provide
support services to the children and families
undergoing cancer treatment.
How Can Your Support help?
-
By funding Toys for every child undergoing
treatment for cancer.
- Every month Little Heroes will
visit the
hospital ward at St James’ and give
every child
undergoing treatment at that time a
present,
for that one moment the child may
forget the
treatment they are on.
- By supporting patient families needing
help
with expenses
- 49% use their holiday allowance -
to care
for their very sick child
- 91% change their working patterns,
following their child's diagnosis,
often to
either part-time or having to give up
work
altogether.
- One or both parents may have to
give up
their work - In order to care for their
child
full-time.
- Some can not have a holiday or a
break, for
over 3 years
- Many spend 24hrs a day in hospital
for
weeks at a time; if not months.
- Many parents of children with
cancer lose
their homes and their livelihoods.
